(August 2010, Zurich) In the closest women's 100m race this season, Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown edged out American Carmelita Jeter, at the Weltklasse Zürich Meeting in Zürich, Switzerland on Thursday.
Campbell-Brown, who was never in contention for the Diamond League Trophy, despite two big wins over her rival this season, got off a to very good start. Jeter, who is known for her powerful finish, closed the rap, but was just edged out at the line by the queen of Jamaican track & field.
Both were credited with the same time, 10.89 seconds. Both earned US$10,000 bonus for athletes who ran under 10.90 seconds.
"My shoulder was a little bit in front so I had the feeling just after the line that I could be the winner," Campbell-Brown said.
Jeter said she lost the race out of the blocks, but still earned the season-long title.
"My start was not that good, second part better," Jeter said, adding that she plans to give her Diamond League trophy to her parents.
Marshevet Hooker Myers was third in 10.97 while Jamaican Sherone Simpson was fifth in 11.18secs.
